The BMW Club Racing List was started in 1997 by Gary Bossert, Ken Partymiller, Ron Checca and Filippo Morelli in response to an increasing need for BMW Club Racers to converse and keep abreast of racing interests. Many very active and prominent racers have already joined the list and we sincerely hope you consider joining.

At the time of creation only licensed racers could post while others (stewards, wannabe racers, et cetera) could join in read only mode. This mechanism was chosen to keep the focus of the List.

In 1999, the Club Racing List became part of the BMW Club Racing Special Interest Group (CR SIG), organized in relation to the BMW Car Club of America.

In 2000, the membership grew to 300. With this growth, several new capabilities were desired:

  • A more powerful List software system, supporting real-time mailing list, Digest mode, real-time web archiving and member self-management.
  • An expanded web site to improve support to a growing membership. This includes a For Sale area for posting items, an archive for old traffic, documents, photos and a few other capabilities to support a growing BMW CCA Club Racing membership.
  • A Membership Charter which defines how members may interact through the CR SIG Mailing List.
  • The ability for all members to have posting privileges under the guidance of the Charter.
  • Sponsors mechanism which provide access to businesses which support BMW club racers.

Today the CR SIG is a community of BMW racers that have gotten to know each other well beyond the track -- through this on-line community. Many of the racers are licensed with the BMW CCA Club Racing program. Often conversations occur on rules, car preparation and events reporting.
