There are a couple of decisions that need to be made first about how
you are going to do this. First, take your leaf blower, open the
hood of your car and see if there is any room in the engine compartment
where you could possibly jam the thing. Nope, me neither. There
was no way to put it in the bay of an E30 M3 so I engineered the next best
(and some would say that it is truly the only) solution in that I mounted
it on the hood of the car. This solution yields kind of a Mad Max beyond
Thunderdome meets Rube Goldberg meets Peewee Herman look. Frankly, I thing
it adds that certain 'Je ne sais qui' look to the car that was hitherto
unadressed. There is now no mistaking that the person behind the
wheel is a person to be reckoned with.

The next decision is placement. Put it above your airbox. Now,
where to cut the holes in your hood. Measure from the intake to the
outflow holes in your leaf blower. Add six inches. Cut two four inch
holes this distance apart. Mark the holes using indelible ink and
drill two pilot holes with the drill and a 1/4" drill bit. Using the metal
cutting blade on the jig saw, cut the two holes in the hood. Cut
away any insulation under the hood with a razor blade and some scissors.
You don't need to be too exact in the circles in the hood as the board
covers them up and we will seal it up with duct tape anyway.
Hold the plywood against the hood and, using your pen, scribe two circles
on the plywood. Drill pilot holes and cut out these holes using the
wood blade on your jig saw. Holding the plywood lined up over the
hood holes, drill four pilot holes for the mounting screws through the
plywood into the hood. Take your self tapping screws and drive them through
the plywood into the pilot holes in the hood. (You can substitute bolts
and nuts for this if your are the anal retentive type. I didn't see the
need. Yet.)

Take the two screw eyes and screw them into the plywood. Place
your leaf blower so the intake is over one hole and the outflow points
toward the other. Use the bungee cords to secure it to the screw eyes.
|
 |
Now take your six feet of dryer vent hose and cut it in half.
Thread one end through the hole in the hood and slide it over the outflow.
|
 |
Duct tape it at the leaf blower to seal all leaks and on both sides
of the hood. Take the second piece of hose and duct tape it to the intake
of the blower. Remove the rubber hose thing that goes between the
AFM and the intake manifold.
|
 |
Attach the intake hose to the AFM using one hose clamp and lots of
duct tape. Attach the outflow hose to the intake manifold using the
other hose clamp and lots of duct tape.
